Dosage of Pharmaceutical Forms — Cinnamomum camphora

Powder — Cinnamomum camphora

Indications (Powder): Trigeminal neuralgia, myalgia, arthritis, osteoarthritis, sciatica, sinusitis, obliterating atherosclerosis, toxic encephalopathy.

Standard Dosage (Powder): 100–150 milligrams of powder once a day orally after meals, no more than 10 days in a row.

Enhanced Dosage (Powder): 150–200 milligrams once a day orally, in a course of up to 7 days. Used for acute forms of sciatica, myalgia, and intoxication encephalopathy.

Maximum Dosage (Powder): Single dose — no more than 250 milligrams. Maximum allowable daily dose — 500 milligrams. Use is allowed only for severe neuralgias and should be carried out under medical supervision.

Preventive Dosage (Powder): 50 milligrams once every 2 days in the morning on an empty stomach, course 10–15 days, then a 30-day break. Used for chronic sinusitis, seasonal manifestations of osteoarthritis, and vegetative-vascular dystonia in patients over 45 years of age.

Pediatric Dosage (Powder): Not recommended for use in children under 12 years of age. For children over 12 years with a body weight of 40 kg or more — no more than 50 milligrams per day. The gender of the child does not matter.

Contraindications (Powder): Epilepsy, organic liver lesions, psychoses, pregnancy, lactation. Data on contraindications in children under 12 years of age have not been scientifically registered.

Side Effects (Powder): Nausea, dizziness, hallucinations, muscle twitching, arrhythmia, agitation; at dosages above 500 milligrams, seizures may develop.

Preventive Dosage (Tincture): 10 drops in the morning in 50 ml of water, every other day, in a course of 2 weeks. Recommended for vegetative-vascular dystonia, decreased blood pressure, recurrent rhinitis, and seasonal bronchitis.

Pediatric Dosage (Tincture): Not used in children under 14 years of age due to ethanol content. Upon reaching 14 years of age — no more than 5 drops once a day, diluted. Body weight — from 45 kg.

Preparation method (Essential Oil): 100 grams of wood and leaves of Cinnamomum camphora are subjected to steam distillation at a temperature of 100 °C for 4 hours. The essential oil is collected from the surface of the cooled condensate and purified by filtration. About 1–1.5 ml of essential oil is obtained per 100 g of raw material.

Storage Conditions and Shelf Life (Essential Oil): Store in a tightly closed dark glass bottle at a temperature of +5 to +25 °C, away from light, heat, and EMI. Shelf life — 24 months. After opening, use within 60 days.


Crystals — Cinnamomum camphora

Indications (Crystals): Migraine, sinusitis, nausea of central origin, depression with anergia, motion sickness, viral infections, tension headache, use as a repellent for vector-borne diseases.

Standard Dosage (Crystals): Inhalations — 0.1 g of crystals in 1 liter of hot water, 1–2 times a day for 5 minutes. Repellent — 1 crystal in a cloth bag in the bedroom or closet. Local inhalation — 1 breath from a distance of 5 cm.

Toxicity and Biosafety of Cinnamomum camphora

Camphor has a narrow therapeutic index, and when the dosage is exceeded, it can cause pronounced neurotoxic reactions. According to toxicological studies, the LD₅₀ value (lethal dose for 50% of animals) upon oral administration is: for rats — 1310 mg/kg; for mice — 750 mg/kg.
