Toxicity and Biosafety of Hibiscus moscheutos

According to preclinical trials conducted on laboratory animals, extracts of Hibiscus moscheutos have extremely low toxicity. In a study published as part of the evaluation of phytopreparations obtained from the flowers of the plant, the acute toxicity LD₅₀ upon oral administration of the aqueous-alcoholic extract to rats exceeded 5000 mg/kg body weight, which allows the drug to be classified as practically non-toxic (Category V on the Hodge and Sterner toxicity scale).

No signs of hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, or disturbances in hematological parameters were observed with prolonged use of dry or aqueous extract of Hibiscus moscheutos.
