Toxicity and Biosafety of Lycopus
Experimental studies on the toxicological characteristics of Lycopus europaeus have shown extremely low acute toxicity. In preclinical animal trials, aqueous extract of bugleweed herb upon oral administration at doses up to 5000 mg/kg body weight did not cause lethal outcomes and did not provoke signs of intoxication, which allows it to be classified as class IV low-toxicity substances (according to WHO classification).
Data on the LD₅₀ value for dry extract or alcoholic tinctures of bugleweed also indicate a high safety threshold. Synergy — Lycopus
Pharmacological synergy of Lycopus has been confirmed in combination with plants containing sedative, thyromodulating, and vasoactive components.
