Dosage of Pharmaceutical Forms — Kaempferia galanga

Powder — Kaempferia galanga

Indications (Powder): Bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, cough with viscous sputum, inflammation of the upper respiratory tract, dyspepsia, gastritis, flatulence, spastic abdominal pain, irritable bowel syndrome, tension headache, migraine, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, myalgia, erectile dysfunction.

Standard Dosage (Powder): 0.5–1 gram of powder 2 times a day, after meals, with warm water.

Enhanced Dosage (Powder): 1.5 grams of powder 2 times a day for acute manifestations of chronic bronchitis, flatulence, erectile dysfunction, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoarthritis.

Maximum Dosage (Powder): 2 grams of powder 2 times a day for no more than 5 days for exacerbation of spastic pain, severe flatulence, and pronounced myalgia.

Preventive Dosage (Powder): 0.5 grams once a day for 21 days, with the course repeated after 2 months. Recommended for chronic gastritis, bronchial hyperreactivity, in men with asthenic syndrome and moderate testosterone hypofunction.

Pediatric Dosage (Powder): For children from 8 years of age with a body weight of 30 kg or more — no more than 0.25 grams once a day. Only after consultation with a pediatrician. Not recommended for children under 8 years of age.

Contraindications (Powder): Gastric and duodenal ulcers in the acute phase, hypersecretory gastritis, pregnancy, lactation. Safety data for use in children under 8 years of age are absent.

Side Effects (Powder): When the dosage is exceeded, burning in the stomach, heartburn, dizziness, and irritability are possible.

Dry Extract — Kaempferia galanga

Indications (Dry Extract): Dyspepsia, gastritis with reduced acidity, inflammation of the upper respiratory tract, migraine, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, chronic prostatitis, fungal skin lesions.

Standard Dosage (Dry Extract): 250 milligrams of extract (10:1) 2 times a day after meals, with warm water.

Preventive Dosage (Tincture): 10 drops once a day in the morning for 14 days. Repeat after 2 months. Recommended for chronic prostatitis, flatulence, and tension headache.

Pediatric Dosage (Tincture): Not recommended for children under 14 years of age due to ethanol content. For children over 14 years — no more than 5 drops once a day in diluted form and under medical supervision.

Kaempferia galanga has traditionally been used in Southeast Asia, mainly in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, the Philippines, and the southern provinces of China. The first documented use of Kaempferia galanga dates back to the medical treatises of the Ayutthaya period (XIV–XVII centuries) in Thailand, where the plant is mentioned as part of healing balms, alcoholic macerates, and powders. In the tradition of Balinese medicine, it was part of rubbing pastes and means for "cooling" the body. Indonesian healing recipes (jamu) actively use grated rhizomes in a mixture with other herbs, both internally and externally.

In folk medicine, the plant was used in the form of decoctions, powders, tinctures on rice wine, steam inhalations, as well as in the form of wraps with fresh root paste. Dried parts were added to amulet bags and used as an aromatic component in the fumigation of dwellings, especially during periods of illness, epidemics, and family crises. Kaempferia galanga was also used in the magical practices of northern Thailand — in particular, to attract good luck and "open speech" for orators and merchants. Some ethnic groups considered the plant a talisman against evil spirits and used infusions for washing before important ceremonies.

In Myanmar and Laos, the plant was used in purification rituals after heavy dreams or contact with "unclean" energy. In southern India, in Tamil villages, it was part of ritual drinks during seasonal festivals aimed at renewing life energy.
