Oryza Sativa - Black (wild) rice - also known as purple rice, is a variety of Oryza Sativa species of rice, some of which are glutinous rice. Black rice is also known as "Forbidden Rice" in ancient China because only upper-class people could afford to eat it. It contains a large amount of anthocyanin polyphenols, hereinafter referred to as ANT, which have a beneficial effect on health due to their antioxidant properties. It has been widely eaten since ancient times in parts of Asia, including present-day Thailand. In an attempt to find out its effective health-promoting components, many researchers have focused on the characteristics of flavonoids, a large class of phenolic compounds that are abundant in black rice. The most well-known flavonoids in Black Rice are anthocyanin polyphenols or, as previously stated, ANT. Black rice is considered a health-supporting food due to its abundance of ANT. Many studies have shown that ANT has a positive effect on various health conditions. One of the reasons for this is their anti-inflammatory properties, which appear due to the effect on collagen synthesis. The destruction of collagen networks during aging or deterioration of the skin condition due to environmental or psychosomatic factors leads to impaired wound healing on the skin. Accordingly, the restoration of collagen synthesis contributes to the maintenance of skin homeostasis during wound healing. Anthocyanin polyphenols are a class of biologically active polyphenolic bioflavonoids that are synthesized by certain plants, including black or wild rice. Documented studies on the effect of ANT on the human body have shown in clinical trials effective prevention of diabetes, an impressive reduction in blood pressure, a significant improvement in vision, including myopia and hyperopia, as well as a powerful anti-inflammatory effect. These phenolic compounds contribute to the rapid healing of wounds on the skin and mucous membranes. In addition, ANTs stimulate the healing of trophic ulcers by suppressing excessive inflammation by inducing the production of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in fibroblasts (connective tissue cells of the body) and keratinocytes (the main cells of the human skin epidermis). Hepatoprotective. Clinical studies have been conducted that have tested the effect of ANT which was extracted from black rice on the repair functions of a damaged liver. Studies have shown that a 30-day intake of ANT resulted in the restoration of liver enzymes activity that was previously affected by toxic hepatosis, this is due to its antioxidant properties. In addition, ANTs have been shown through clinical trials to inhibit breast cancer cell proliferation and are effective as part of breast cancer therapy.
Mucositis.
